Requirements

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (ABN 96 584 957 427) (the department) is seeking to engage one Project Officer for a period of 10 months.

The Career Pathways Project will be used to support career development activities and transitions across school and work roles.

We are seeking a candidate with experience in managing or supporting large, complex digital projects across Australian Government agencies, who can:

  • prepare dashboards, project and portfolio status reports for the department’s Executive
  • establish and maintain project documentation and improve project information management systems
  • provide practical guidance to support the delivery of complex projects and large change initiatives
  • foster collaborative and mutually supportive relationships with Senior responsible officers, project managers and key stakeholders
  • facilitate knowledge sharing and capability-building amongst departmental staff
  • draft and deliver strategic communications and coordinate project change management activities.

Candidates require:

  • experience in preparing project dashboards and portfolio status reports
  • experience in establishing and maintaining project documentation
  • well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate with and influence management and staff at all levels
  • relevant certifications or qualifications in project management
  • experience in drafting and delivering strategic communications
  • experience in coordinating project change management activities.

Working arrangements
Full Time Requirement: Onsite, standard 8 hours per day, and 40 hours per week in total. Flexible Working Arrangements (including remote working arrangements): Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis against the business requirements of the department and the needs of the immediate work area. Reduced Activity Period – A reduced activity period may apply where the specified personnel will not work unless the buyer has provided pre-approval in writing, which includes: • public holidays; and • Christmas shutdown, from 12:30 pm on the last working day before Christmas Day and reopening the first working day following the first day of January each year.

Criteria

Essential criteria
1. Experience in preparing project dashboards and portfolio status reports.
2. Experience in establishing and maintaining project documentation.
3. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate and influence with management and staff at all levels.
4. Knowledge in widely used project and program management methodologies and experience implementing IT projects for Commonwealth agencies.
5. Relevant industry certifications or qualifications in project management such as PRINCE2, PRINCE2 AGILE, Managing Successful Programmes, AIPM RegPM.
6. Experience in preparing project dashboards and portfolio status reports.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience in drafting and delivering strategic communications and coordinating project change management activities.
2. Experience in contributing to policy activities in support of project implementation including legislative amendments, preparation of briefings, and other written materials.
